09 Nov Stressed Today?
Exercise is a great stress reliever. That’s important to know at all times, but especially during periods when we are more likely to be stressed (whether it’s work, family, or even election related).
The paradox for so many of us is that when we are stressed, especially because of a lot on our plates, we are less likely to exercise. We just don’t have the time. But studies show that working out in fact counters stress, making you more productive for the rest of your day.
As the Mayo Clinic reports the effects of working out include:
- It pumps up your feel-good endorphins. The physical activity increases the production of the brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, known as endorphins.
- It improves your mood. It can relax you and increase self-confidence, and similarly it lowers symptoms associated with mild depression and anxiety.
- It’s meditation in motion. Simply put by focusing on the exercise or sport you’re doing, you’re distracted from what’s stressing you out.
So no matter how busy you are, make sure you fit some exercise into your week. Your body and mind will thank you for it. Make it social and fun by inviting someone to join you.
