Jacque’s Story: From Face Down in a Pool To Off Medication

People Who Inspire Us

Jacque was found facedown in a pool in Jamaica. She had a heart attack. Doctors didn’t paint a positive future. She decided otherwise. Her journey since then is inspiring, and we thank her for sharing it with the Burnalong community. One of the most rewarding parts of being part of Burnalong Community is hearing stories from members like Jacque who have overcome challenges that others would crumble at. Thank you, Jacque!

Jacque’s Story

“I spent 40 years as a desk jockey. I worked hard and I played hard. I rarely exercised, smoked at least a pack a day, and lived on fast food. Three years ago, I retired and planned to pay my body back for all the misery I put it through.

But, in July, 2017, while on a relaxing vacation in Jamaica, my heart suddenly stopped and left me floating face-down in the resort pool. I woke up in intensive care in Ft. Lauderdale as a semi-invalid. The cardiologists told me I must slow down and take heart medications for the rest of my life.

I have no memory of the time in Jamaica, and muddled remembrances of Ft Lauderdale. So it was very difficult for me to accept what the doctors had to say. I’m stubborn and have to figure things out for myself! Investigations into my prescribed medications made me very unhappy – so many side effects, so much downside.

Instead, I embarked on a more holistic therapy including vigorous exercise and a healthy diet. My daily exercise regimen started off with a mile and a half walk plus an hour of intermediate aquacise class 6 days a week. But the CPR and AED used to revive me in Jamaica left me hunched over with sore ribs.

I needed something more! Investigation led me to yoga to stretch my chest and back muscles – and that’s where Burnalong.com saved the day for me! I needed to start slowly, work at my own pace, be able to explore different instructors and combinations, plus, most of all, I needed the yoga classes to be flexible and conform to MY schedule. Burnalong.com has given me this – and MORE. I’ve expanded the classes I take each day to include ab workouts, and stretching. And every week, I choose another type of exercise class to see how I like it. What a wonderful workout tool for pennies a day that is flexible and easy to use!

I’m almost completely off the heart medications, continuing to lose weight, and I’m toning my body. And I feel great!!”

Congratulations, Jacque! Getting started is often the hardest part. Read more inspiring stories from the Burnalong community.
