Burnalong: “What do you teach?”
Joanie: “Kickboxing, Bodysculpt, Boxing, K9 Fit Classes, Bootcamps, Fit Over 50, Parkinsons Boxing!”
Burnalong: “How did you get into fitness/health/wellbeing?”
Joanie: “I have always had a passion for fitness and found the added benefits of how a good exercise program can help relieve stress and increase coping skills as my family grew. Now, being a single mom of 5 children, my fitness has grounded and anchored me which makes me both a stronger person and parent. I strive to share this philosophy with my clients. By taking the time to take care of yourself you become a better caregiver, provider, worker, whatever capacity you are needed for out there. I prepare you for whatever life throws at you, here in the gym, from the inside out!”
Burnalong: “How do you motivate others?”
Joanie: “It’s interesting how each person each day can be different in what motivates. Fitness, hands down, can fix anything! If you’re having a bad day a workout fixes that! If you’re tired a workout creates energy. My job during class is to help you tap into that fact, our bodies are capable of so much more than we sometimes think. My purpose is to help you realize your own potential. If you’re not in the mood to work out – give me 2 minutes – I promise you will feel better!”
Burnalong: “Who are your heroes and role models?”
Joanie: “David Goggins, and Rich Roll, 2 people who have overcome obstacles in life, and found how fitness can make you stronger, both mentally and physically.”
Burnalong: “In your classes, how do you accommodate different skill and fitness levels?”
Joanie: “I always say that my classes have an “on-ramp”. You can look at others in class that are going all out – to the most intense level – and get energy and encouragement from them. But you begin at your own fitness level and enjoy the feeling of getting stronger with each class. The workout doesn’t get easier, but you get fitter!”
