Study: Live Longer if Sweat With Friends vs. Alone

A workout is always more fun with a friend, but did you know that research shows that exercising with a friend may cause you to live longer than if you worked out alone?

According to a new epidemiological study of Danish men and women published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, ” leisure-time sports that inherently involve more social interaction were associated with the best longevity.”

“At this point, no one doubts that being physically active improves our health and can extend our longevity. Multiple, recent epidemiological studies have pinpointed links between regular exercise and longer lives in men and women,” Gretchen Reynolds in the New York Times writes. What’s fascinating here is that:

“The results raise interesting questions about the role that social interactions might play in augmenting the benefits of exercise.”

This follows a British study that found people who played sports (“social sweating”) outlived those who jogged “solidary sweating.”

So what does knowing this – that “social sweating” could be far more effective than “solitary sweating” – mean?

If you can, get together in-person with others. Join a sports league or go to group fitness classes. If you can’t, use a platform like Burnalong, which gives you the experience of social sweating with friends/family/co-workers, from your own home or wherever you are.

Burnalong is the perfect solution, as it allows users the ability to work out with family, friends and co-workers from the comfort of… anywhere! This health and wellness platform is accessible from your computer or smartphone, anytime of day, giving you no excuse to miss out on your workout!

Find a friend, and get the most you possibly can from each of your workouts.
